What Is World Class Manufacturing And How Do You Measure It?

Posted by Harriet Schneider on Jul 17, 2017 10:49:19 PM

Larry Fast, founder and president of Pathways to Manufacturing Excellence

Question:

"What is World Class Manufacturing and How Do You Measure It?

Answer:

Now THAT’s a great question! I am unaware of a specific measurement that is universally available for use. If any of our readers are aware of such a measurement(s), then please comment. I can only share how I’ve thought about it and what I’ve used over the years with my operations and my clients.

My definition of World Class: “When a U.S. company and its factories are competitive in global markets they wish to serve.” As I’ve said before, U.S. manufacturing leadership can gripe about the playing field not being level while they watch foreign manufacturers continue to eat into their market share in this country. The ultimate outcome will range from a shrinking market share in the U.S. and/or one day going out of business; OR, the alternative—we must become good enough to compete. That’s World Class.

Over the years, SP Apparel has established a proud reputation for the quality of its products produced in Canada using state of the art manufacturing equipment and the latest technology. This reputation results from the constant efforts and dedication displayed by our team.

“Our ERP system is an essential part of our business and while we were not experiencing any problems there were many changes to our business processes and we felt updating our ERP system to a more technologically modern, functionally rich solution would help our growing business,” said Steve Berard, Executive Vice President and co-owner.

Berard decided to approach this very strategically, realizing this could be an opportunity to not only upgrade the system, but to make changes to improve efficiency and reduce overall costs.

He identified the following 3 steps to manage this important move:

1)      Created an RFP and evaluated 5 vendors on their ERP solution.

2)      Short-listed Infor & Microsoft.

3)      Evaluated total cost of ownership for this new ERP system.

RSWM Goes Live With Infor M3 GST Deployment With Quality And Timely Support From ICCG.

Posted by Shiv Kaushik on Jul 7, 2017 8:30:00 AM

Goods and Services Tax or (GST), represents the biggest tax reform in India’s history. This new tax regime, which replaces the current complex structure of multiple indirect taxes in favor of a comprehensive dual Goods and Services Tax (GST), came into effect July 1, 2017.

The RSWM Business and IT team worked with ICCG – an Infor M3 Implementation Partner, to complete this important deployment in record time - just 20 days. While the ICCG and RSWM teams worked on implementing GST on ERP Infor M3 for its yarn business, the internal RSWM team had taken full responsibility to implement GST on TIM/ BPCS. Both ERPs have successfully gone live with the support of all team members.

“We are happy to share that we have gone live with our GST implementation,” said Prakash Maheshwari, Executive Director for RSWM Limited – an LNJ Bhilwara Group Company. “It is a great achievement to reach this milestone and goal to be GST compliant.”

“This GST implementation had to be completed before July 1, 2017, making this a good challenge for us to undertake,” said Manoj Gandhi, Chief of Operations, ICCG. “We value our customer relationships and always go that extra mile to address their needs,” continued Gandhi. “RSWM is a very important customer for ICCG so we ensured that our experienced Infor M3 consultants were deployed to the project and they worked beyond working hours to meet the deadlines. At the end what mattered for us was that RSWM management was happy with the successful Go Live.”

RSWM continues to work closely with ICCG as their Infor M3 Implementation partner to address all other aspects of their Infor M3 deployment.

ICCG is Infor Global Alliance Partner focused on Infor M3 and Infor LN ERP solutions and also Infor Fashion PLM, Discrete PLM and Infor Supply Chain Execution and WMS solutions.

When The Future Is Now, ERP Updates Prove Key To Success

Posted by Harriet Schneider on Jun 29, 2017 7:17:18 PM

By Mary Trick, Chief Customer Officer, Infor

The typical age of an ERP solution release in a midmarket organization is more than seven years. A lot can change in that time – businesses expand, new technology is introduced, and new regulations are instituted.

  • Organizations on the latest version of their ERP software typically report a 13% reduction in operational costs.
  • Organizations that are implemented on the latest release are 70% more likely than those that are not to have the ability to share and integrate data with the extended enterprise; partners, customer, and regulatory bodies.
  • In an ever-more-mobile world, organizations with the latest ERP software are 67% more likely to have access on mobile devices.
  • 53% of organizations with the latest version use best practices of the ERP solution compared to 47% that are not.

If these findings aren’t enough to convince you of the merits of an upgraded ERP system, consider this: Out-of-date systems are harder to support and maintain. This translates into less efficiency and more cost and risk to you.
